Sam, a soldier who had served in Afghanistan and Iraq, meets Amira when he visits her uncle, Bassam, who had served as Sam's Iraqi translator. Bassam and Sam have a particular bond resulting from their time collectively within the struggle. Initially Amira doesn't belief him as a result of he was an American soldier and her brother was killed by a bomb from American troops within the struggle. Sam's cousin, Charlie, asks Sam to assist him with unlawful hedge funds unbeknownst to Sam on the time. Amira is staying together with her uncle Bassam since her father died. She sells bootlegged movies on the road nook however is pressured to stick with Sam after getting busted; immigration officers start pursuing her. Because the movie progresses, Sam and Amira fall in love.
