A widower with three younger youngsters finds himself in debt. Blinded, in an industrial accident, he loses his job and is admitted to hospital. Upon returning dwelling, he overhears the heartless landlord criticising him for not dying as a substitute of "merely" blinding himself as a result of, if he had been useless, the kids could possibly be taken care of in an orphanage.
