Raghavan Thampi (Thilakan) and his spouse Subhadra (Sukumari) have two sons, Prabhakaran (Nedumudi) and Pradeep (Jayaram). Prabhakaran needs to turn out to be a mridungam maestro towards the desires of his dad and mom who need him to get married. When Prabhakaran refuses, Subhadra emotionally blackmails him and will get him married off to Shailaja (Geetha). In the meantime Pradeep falls in love with Roshni (Urvashi) they usually get married secretly with out their dad and mom' data.
