The movie is a social drama, with its plot round college professor Dr. Kumar (Ashok Kumar), who lives together with his spouse Padma (Bhanumati), his drunkard son Jyoti (Raaj Kumar), outgoing daughter Chitra (Tanuja) and his pal's daughter Rekha (Mala Sinha). Dr. Kumar and his spouse have a distinct outlook in the direction of life, with him preferring books and philosophy, whereas his spouse Padma prefers social gatherings and society golf equipment. Padma by no means thought of Jyoti her son, who works as a mill designer, a career she considers too poor to acknowledge. Chitra is inspired by her mom to mingle freely in excessive society, a lot to the frustration of her anxious father.
