For years, previous wooden carver Mr. Meacham has delighted native kids together with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep within the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace, who works as a forest ranger, these tales are little greater than tall tales... till she meets Pete, a mysterious 10-year-old with no household and no house who claims to stay within the woods with an enormous, inexperienced dragon named Elliott. And from Pete's descriptions, Elliott appears remarkably much like the dragon from Mr. Meacham's tales. With the assistance of Natalie, an 11-year-old woman whose father Jack owns the native lumber mill, Grace units out to find out the place Pete got here from, the place he belongs, and the reality about this dragon.
