Balraj (Dharmendra), affectionately known as Raj, by his elder brother (Nana Palsikar) and sister Vija (Madhumati), is a pupil in faculty within the arts semester. Because the household will not be very wealthy, Raj decides to maneuver from the hostel to the residence of a household. He finds one such household in Gandhinagar, which consists of Choudhury Hukumat Rai (Ashok Kumar), a lawyer by career, his spouse (Nimmi), and solely daughter Shanti (Mala Sinha). Hukumat takes an instantaneous liking to Raj, and tells him that his spouse will solely permit him to take up residence if he tells her that he's already married. Raj reluctantly does so, and thus acquires residence with the Rai household. Finally Mrs. Rai takes a liking to Raj, so does Shanti. Shanti finds out Raj and her dad had lied to the household about Raj's marital standing, she confronts Raj, and he readily admits that he lied.
