Feluda alias Pradosh Mitra, a personal detective is invited by a wealthy former Zamindar (and a retired massive recreation hunter) in North Bengal. The duty is to resolve a riddle which was written by an ancestor very long time in the past. The riddle ostensibly comprises clue to discovering hidden treasure that belongs to the household of the Zamindar. When Tarit Sengupta, the non-public secretary of the Zamindar is killed in mysterious circumstances, Feluda finds out that Tarit had already solved the riddle, and was within the technique of stealing the treasure when he was killed.
