Shakuntala, daughter of Meneka and Rishi Vishwamitra lives in forest together with her instructor, Rishi Kanva. Within the forest she meets King Dushyant, falls in love with him and the 2 get married. After she has their child (Prince Bharata), Dushyant leaves her within the forest with a promise to return again for her quickly. Nonetheless, attributable to a sage's curse, Dushyant forgets all about Shakuntala, till future brings them collectively once more.
