This historic movie, accomplished in 1995 by filmmaking duo Tareque Masud and Catherine Masud tells the true story of a troupe of singers touring by means of the refugee camps and zones of struggle throughout the Bangladesh Liberation Struggle in 1971. The movie blends documentary and fictional genres in a musical construction to inform the story of the beginning of a nation and the beliefs of secularism and tolerance on which it was based. The filmmakers mixed footage of the cultural troupe and their actions, shot by American filmmaker Lear Levin in 1971, with historic footage collected from archives world wide, to create “Muktir Gaan” (Tune of Freedom).
