A silent movie depicting the ship-breaking yards of Chittagong, Bangladesh, a last vacation spot for ships too outdated to ply the oceans. Yearly, a whole bunch of ships are despatched to those yards. And yearly, 1000's of individuals come to those yards searching for jobs. Risking their lives to save lots of themselves from starvation, they breathe in asbestos mud and poisonous waste. The ship has to die and man has to assist it die, as if man and vessel have been united in widespread bondage. The Final Rites bears testomony to the resilience of the human spirit.
