In 1985, Willem de Kooning’s “Girl-Ochre,” some of the useful work of the twentieth century, vanished into the Arizona desert after being minimize from its body on the College of Arizona Museum of Artwork. 32 years later, the $160 million portray was discovered hanging within the dwelling of Jerry and Rita Alter in rural New Mexico.
