Vellai is a farmer from an economically self-sufficient village. However when he and the villagers take a financial institution's crop mortgage, they get caught in debt attributable to drought and low costs for crops. So few determined farmers migrate to the town searching for a job. Can they repay their debt? Or will they provide up farming?
